Hey gang.. Putting together the MSD 6AL system on my friend '71 Challenger R/T. Curious, all the wires seem to be rather obvious for me, except the red wire that apparently, according to the wiring diagram supplied, goes to the original coil + wire. Would that be the 12V feed on the ballast resistor? It seems on the 6-series modules, the white wire isn't used. Also, apparently you can order the harness PN 8860...
Thanks.. Troy

just remember that one side of the ballast resistor is Run..and the one is STart....the red MSD wire must see 12 volts at Start and Run...
usually have to splice the twice ballast resistor wires together then connect the red wire to them...

Hello All,,, I'm still sort of confused on where to connect the white wire to. The red I'm good with, the ballast resistor ( I have hard-wired the ballast in the back to give the engine compartment a more OEM look). The orange and black wires to the coil posts. The heavy gauge red to the battery +, but I'll connect it to the hot post on the starter relay switch and then the black heave gauge wire to a ground. Finally, the distributor harness is obvious..
Thanks..

when i hook up the "keyed" power red wire i attach it to the brown AND blue wire leading to the ballast. i am not sure which color wire is which. but one wire has power and cuts out when you turn the switch to crank. the other wire has no power when the key is on and has power when you turn the switch to start.
you can just attach the red keyed power wire to the old positive side of the coil wire. but you have to use the ballast if you wire it that way.
perception is 90% of reality

MSD requires the + and - to be wired directly to the battery for a reason. If you want to have grief with an MSD system, the fastest way to do so is to deviate from the instructions. I've seen them wired to a "more convenient" 12V source before and would not fire. Hooked it to the battery per instructions and Vroooom.
