Okay, Moparts, I'm on the fence picking a carb for the wife's '68 New Yorker.

Here's the details
• Fresh 440 .030 over
• 9.0:1 compression
• Comp Cams XE250 - http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=704&sb=0
• Stock Intake Manifold
• HP exhaust manifold w/duals
• MPP Electronic Ignition
• 2.76 axle ratio
• 727 w/12” convertor

Would you bolt on an Edelbrock 600 or 750 performer?

This is 4000+lbs. cruiser/road trip machine

Thanks.

How about a 60's vintage rebuilt AVS? If EB is the only choice I'd reccomend the 600 for that car.

The 600 will be more than adequate and will probably give decent mileage.

With that build, IMO you'd be happier with that edelbrock 600 rather than a 750 or any of the holley offerings.

Best mileage cruiser I had was a 383 with a 600 Eddy. Don't even consider the 750 Eddy for any reason. That new TQ ripoff looks like an interesting rig.

I want my fair share

Yes, period correct, but not the correct period, 1971 was the first year for a production correct Mopar TQ application.

For a 68 C-body 440 car (Non HP) a 4160 series Holley carb would have been installed from the factory. 68 HP 440 cars would have had an AVS. Both the factory AVS and the Holley flowed around 600 CFMs so a similar sized modern replacement would work fine on the described build.

If you want to go outside the "original" box a bit further an intake swap to a spread bore design (early 70's iron spread bore 440 intakes are cheap, common, and flow pretty decent) and a properly built Thermo-Quad would likely yield the best overall power and economy.
