Based on member Kowal's GTX pictures, I want to use +1 inch lift leaf springs for 68 RR.

I can't decide between Eaton or ESPO. ESPO costs less. Are they US-made? Can I go wrong with ESPO? Thanks.

Kowal's GTX below with Eaton +1. Looks sharp. My RR is such a wreck compated to this GTX, but it's the only one I will ever have, so I could go either way, Eaton or ESPO, whichever would work out best. If they are samesies, would go with ESPO, spend the difference on gas, and go for a ride with my cuzzin.

Yep, made in MEHECO! That is what she told me when I called. I went with JRS springs, supposedly made in the same plant. Tim

Okay leaning towards Eaton right now. Will donate plasma for gas. :P Believe my F150 has leaf springs made in Mexico and they're good, but that's not a Roadrunner. Need to think on it some more.

I put ESPO springs on my 57 Plymouth. No complaints with fit or function.

Hey I went with Eaton in my car. I read where they might look alittle more correct. I did reuse my bottom leaf that had the part nos. on them. I dont know whether they where worth the extra coin. I would probably go with ESPO if not worried about an OE look. See Ya!

I used Eaton Detroit on my 69 Roadrunner with 1" lift and found them to be just fine.

I was less than impressed with the Eaton product on my New Yorker. They LOOKED wonderful but when I dropped the jack they were humped over backwards just as bad as the 40 year old ones they replaced. I never called them because it was about 2 yrs from when I bought them to when I installed them so I can't comment on what they will or won't do as far as customer service is concerned.

To get the same ride height as the GTX in the pic be sure to order
the 440/426 +1 springs and not the RR 383 +1 springs.

Maybe I should start a separate thread for this, but, I'm curious as to how many ESPO (or even Eaton) users have had their springs for 10 yrs or more.

I've got a pair of ESPO 1" over on my wagon. When the spring were first installed back in '99, with a full tank of gas, a full sized spare, and a small tool box, the wagon would sit pretty much level.

Now, 12+ yrs later, it still sits pretty much level, but, now it does only with no weight in the back.

Not really a complaint, I did actually USE my wagon as a wagon for awhile there. Even at current height, they're still w-a-y better than the stockers I pulled off. Just an observation I've wondered about.

For $100 more each spring, since Eaton is working from original drawings and made in USA, I figure that might be the best chance to have the right dimensions and metallurgy. Now, Eaton doesn't have a steel mill, so who knows where the steel comes from.

Still considering everything. Other options are Stengel Bros and Suspension King. I have written off the XHD.

I was going to buy Eaton for my restoration project, but I have heard the quality has gone down a lot since Eaton sold that division. I don't know who owns them now. I was told by some Eaton friends they sold the division over 10 years ago.

So I went with Espo. They showed up last week. Not too impressed with the general fit and finish. Both bottom leafs have major grind marks. I will be calling them tomorrow to discuss.

After much indecision I called up ESPO and ordered 6-leaf HD +1 over. You can choose 5 or 6-leaf there, and I was like "Um, I don't know. Six." My RR is such a beater and I need to get moving, and that was one email, one phone call and everything is on the way. If I don't like the ESPOs I will just work on the vintage ones. We will see what happens.

Update for anyone who searches and comes across this thread. Stuff from ESPO showed up 8/9, exactly one week after calling them.

These are not museum quality springs but all appears to be serviceable. They are painted gloss black. Originals as I remember tham are not painted at all. I don't care about that for this car. I like the hardware I asked them to send; u-bolts, spring eye bolts, & shackles; not exact reproduction of original pieces but it all looks good.

I notice individual leaves are not as thick as original. I don't know if that's because I used 6 instead of 5 leaf. When installed they do actually add about 1 inch of height over stock, and that's what I wanted. I like it and hope they hold up. Lots of work I don't want to do again for a while.
