Thought I would update my findings on m5 methanol,
Just got back from a weekend at the track. I ran my car on the friday night test and tune in 90 plus degree heat, no prep on track and Hot. tuned it to a,
1.361 spun
6.135@112.4
9.650@138.88
with regular methanol. came back to pits drained fuel cell and filled with M5 and richened a few steps.
First untuned M5 pass in same or worse conditions resulted in,
1.360 spun bad
6.102@113.35
9.591@139.96.

A new best , now I need to find a fuel sponsor as I am ruined with new fuel. This stuff is amazing.

IMO, I think you need more data.
Like on a well prepped track, ABA testing for best results...
I'm not trying to rain on your parade but 3x the cost of regular meth for 1mph gain? I wouldn't even consider it.

I am a just an et chaser, so to me it is a good gain. I will gain more from it with more tuning. I was just posting my findings.

I paid 45 for a 5 gal drum delivered to me. Would be cheaper for a whole 55 gal drum.

Wow, pretty pricy.

Why dont you try this with 16 Oz of Marvel Mystery oil per drum? Thats how the old timers used alcohol.

If you can find a local distributor, you could save the shipping too.

Compared to normal methanol yes.

how can you be sure the track wasn't coming around?? You said yourself it spun the tires on first hit right?? just sayin

I would not view any data from a poorly prepped track as conclusive. Glad you like the M5 though and congrats on new best!

Both passes were in same conditions. 20 mins apart, this is as conclusive of a test that I can make.

Spun first and on m5 pass.
1.361 first pass
M5 spun also and went 1.360.

Just like I had said above.

I believe when you get a handle on your tune up you will get some more out of it.A man that races with us picked up a 1/2 tenth in the 1/8 mile, using a single flying toilet on a 582 cu in chevy engine switching from M1-M5 no other changes. He got some tuning tips from a man in Texas who was running the same engine combination. So he was close on his tune up at the start.

I believe I will also. Thanks

Long overdue update;;
I went from a 108 bypass with 38 nozzles to a 100 and gained .14 et from 8.90 to 8.76 with about a 2 mph gain, log book is not available to me at the moment. In the end it was hard to race with due to fumes. On one pass my eyes watered so bad i should have aborted. For years (1999 to 2009) running methanol and Klotz i got by with just filling the system and not draining it for storage. After playing with m5 for four years all my AN fittings were junk. So if you run it drain the m5 after the race weekend and be sure lines and all are clear of fuel.

I use half m-5 and half standard methanol. I havent done any back to back so I'm not sure there. Its very consistent for sure. I've used it for several years with good results. You dont want it too lean as it'll burn electrodes or pistons. My big w-8 SB made about 910 on the dyno. The smell is mostly tolerable as long as your headers point outward. Ive also built a primer plus system to save fuel on warm ups.

Injection or carb?

Would like to do a simple primer/ warm up system for my carb

I've ran M1,3,and 5. On the dyno, and at the track. The M5 is better all the way around. No need for top lube, easier starting, wider tuning range, and more power. Was worth on average, 5 percent more power. Ran it with the same jetting as M1, and then jetted up, didn't hurt anything with same jetting, but did pick up with jetting, and timing. My feeling is, it just atomizes better than straight meth, so you can burn more of it than M1 in the same scenario.
