Hi I am thinking about building up an 426 small block for my Challenger. It will be based on an R3 block bored to 4.25 with an DragonSlayer 3.75 stroke crank. Has anyone on here built up an engine like this? Or have information on who to contact about setting up this combo. Also the engine would be need to be able to handle large amounts of NOS as my engine now does.

There are a couple of 427 small block articles on my website. www.arengineering.com then go to the tech article section.

Thanks for the infromation The thing that I am thinking about is the engine being based on an 3.75 stroke. I have an 4.00 stroke engine now and know that a small block can be buit up to an 472 with 4.25 stroke I am just thinking of building something different, shorter stroke and large bore.

I went more stroke and less bore to get 430 cubes on an X block. I'm testing a few variations of the motor now but i posted the stock head, air gap / small cam setup LINK HERE

4.250 has been done. Both of the ones I know of were filled. I ran lots of NOS. I would definately 3/4 fill the block.
The reason I went to this bore was for a ring I needed. You can get nitrous rings for more bores these days. 4.200- 4.220 would be a safer choice. But, I like bore too.

I would use less bore and more stroke that leaves you room on the bore later on If and when it comes time for a fresh set of slugs.
70 duster full chassis super pro 416 CNC Indybrock heads 727 w/brake
best so far 1.212 60 6.219 in 1/8 at 110.88 9.768 at 137.81 1/4

I would go 4.185 bore(common chevy piston) with a 3.79 crank but have the rod journals cut to chevy but off grind it for more stroke if you want

Thats what I am looking for Common parts to make a great combo without having to have crank, rods, and pistons all custom made. Thanks
My W-9 is just 405ci... thats a 3.79 stroke with 4.125 bore (common chevy piston also) with 6.125 chevy H-beam rods... I wish I would have just went with the 4.185 bore to unshroud the valves better

Il ike the short 3.75 stroke combined with a big (but not maxed out to preserve bore rigidity) for a Nitrous combo, run as long a rod as the deck and pin combo will let you for a nitrous slug (typically lower set ring pack). Normally aspirated I'd go 4.185" (common .060 over 400 chevy or 455 olds size) and a 4.125 stroke. save some bore thickness for next time...or next couple times. The biggest bore possible theory is less critical now than it was before the big flowing heads we have today were readily available. The 'magic cube' numbers (like 426 and 440, etc) are novel and I suppose 'stylish' for conversation purposes but if there's no other reason.....

Those little air cleaners have been known to really screw up the air flow to the carb... I would off that and get something better(I know you are trying to clear the hood)

Thanks for the information about the crank and deck hight. This gives me something to work off of.
(And yes I am using that air cleaner to clear the hood) Haven't found another one that will clear
