O.k. - Is anyone familiar with any paint codes
that would have had 2 different part numbers that refer to the same paint?
I know that if you were ordering touch-up or replacement paint from a different supplier(say PPG,DuPont,R&M,etc..)as opposed to Chrysler Co.,each manufacturer could have their own part # assigned to the same color.BUT...How about within Chrysler itself ?

This question in particular is in reguards to a Macho Power Wagon. The Paint code for Citron Green on build sheets/core tag would be listed as PY7858 but in the dealer service manual for '79
the part # is listed as AY70RJ3.I know that these are the same color,is there any known reason why the numbers would have been refered to differently?
How about some of you guys with high end 'birds
& Bee's,etc...If you have a dealer service manual for your model year line have you ever compared
the CHRYSLER CODE number listed in the book for your paint to the code number on build sheet or fender tag?
Trying to decifer the trucks has proven to be even more of an enigma than the cars sometimes so any thoughts/answers are would be greatly appreciated. Thanks A.l

Since the PY7858 is the Ditzler code for the paint color, maybe Chrysler dealership service departments didn't always use or have access to Ditzler paints, so the Ditzler number would be of no use to them if they needed to re-paint something. They needed a generic Chrysler number for the paint (AY70RJ3) to mix in whatever brand paint they had access to.

Chrysler Corp. had thier own formulas for paint for example

I have 1967-1978 Sherwin-Williams "Color Manuals"
they list factory code & then thier paint codes

--- CHRYSLER CODE AY70RJ3:
TRUCK COLORS - 1978 Dodge "Citron Green Metallic" - DT-7858
Acrylic Enamel - F11 G 3861-E
Acrylic Lacquer - L11 G 3861-E

same as

Passenger Car COLORS - 1978 Dodge "Citron Metallic" - RJ3
Acrylic Enamel - F11 G 3861-E
Acrylic Lacquer - L11 G 3861-E

also

--- CHRYSLER CODE AY1EW1:
TRUCK COLORS - 1974-78 Dodge "White" - DT-1417
Acrylic Enamel - F10 A 2858
Acrylic Lacquer - L10 A 2858
Enamel - J3-2226

same as - in both the 1969 book & the 1978 book although the name changes from "White"

Passenger Car COLORS - 1969-78 Dodge "Eggshell White" - EW1
Acrylic Enamel - F10 A 2858
Acrylic Lacquer - L10 A 2858
Enamel - J3-2226

etc.

speaking of paint ... riddle me this ...
Why the different name?
Is the code difference (AQ-424S vs. AY2FK5) because it is laquer?
What's with the 9 F 165 stamped through the label?

I have a quart of:
MOPAR
automotive paint line
acrylic laquer
"medium burnt orange metallic"
color code K5
AQ-424S

stamped through the label
9 F 165

it is 1970 FK5
Dodge - "Dark Burnt Orange metallic"
Plymouth - "Deep Burnt Orange metallic"

Chrysler Corp. code/formula AY2FK5

Sorry,I'm only good at asking questions not answering them.
So is the paint code on fender/core tags the reference to the Ditzler code? If so the manual has a different code number listed as "Ditzler"
with an a notation "or equivalent" for some paints.
If Chrysler had its own part number established for paints I wonder why they would not have used that on build sheets/core tags?
Did they use Ditzler codes exclusively for tags/build sheets?
There is a post on the truck forum "Quick Reference to 70's Trucks" on page 3 that I have been trying to match up colors with Chrysler Codes. The print is kind of small on some of them but you can still make out the numbers which don't appear to match up with anything.
Care to take a crack at it....
Some of this will all tie together, one question was if B5 Blue matched up '77 Light Blue Metallic.
Now I'm wondering if B5 Blue should be called that anymore or we should be refering to it as AY60--- something or other...
