Dunn Tire Park Mopar Day...

Well, we got the valvetrain sorted out, the brakes sorted out, the 2-step wiring sorted out, trans brake sorted out, the four link sorted out, get to first round, cut a .527 light off the 2-step with the trans brake to the other guys .503....Aaargh! And I am a first round LOOSER!

Still had a blast

Welcome to delay box racing. Typically if you aren't 00 on the tree you aren't going to win many races.

What happened to Run with What you Brung Heads Up racing????? Pedal to the metal from start to finish. Put up or shut up.
Now it's who has the most trickery installed and who has the better psychological strategy...

Actually I ran the No Box class (Heavy Hitter) and a trans brake with a two step is allowed, two step with foot brake is allowed, or just foot brake. I never ran a car with a trans brake or a two step before, so this is the 8th pass using it if you count the 4 passes I made Friday at TNT where it actually worked....

Getting the two step working has been a royal pain. Keeping brakes on the car has been a pain as well, but we are getting it down.

When I race in a no box class I use the two step starting line rpm to fine tune my reaction time along with an adjustable button. My first hit with it at the finals last year was .000, but it all went down hill after that.

Okay I guess I’m going to stir the pot here a little. If you are foot brake racing use the foot brake period! Trans brakes and two steps don’ belong there!

If you want to control the launch rpm look at your tack when you bring the rpm up. Some tacks even have a feature that will flash the shift light to assist with launch rpm.

Up here in this division the trans brake is allowed
so why not use it... I do... that way if I want I
can enter box and no box by just putting the box in
which takes just a few seconds(but I learned that
its hard to go from top light to bottom light round
after round)

Pro ET here allows a two step and a trans brake. They also allow automated shifters. But no delay box or throttle stops. Thus the "No Box" or "No Electronics" class not pure foot brake, that's different. But I will also race pure footbrake using the tach as you described to launch. No pot stirring necessary.

Hey Mike, I overcame that problem by leaving off the bottom bulb in any class. I know I probably give up something there but I'm used to doing it that way.

I normally run the car as a foot brake only...

What I have learned though, its 512 cubes, and any difference in launch rpm, changes the reaction time. I would still want to run the 2-step with a foot brake to make sure I get the right launch rpm because it makes too big of a RT differnce and it has lost me a race or two.

So, the way I look at it, if its allowed, I will run it. The button I have is adjustable, but I have not tinkered with it yet. I cut a .512 in time trialas so i figured I was close enough...

Watch time runs on any Sunday at RT 66 and you will see .00X lights pop up like candy in SPORTSMAN. No 2 steps or brakes allowed, true footbrake only.

I can usually go .01X in my pickup in time runs.

Can't seem to do it in the first round though.

I've got a buddy who has been racing the same 5.0 Mustang for almost 20 years. If he goes .020 he is dead late.

As I said, I have 7 total passes on it this way, and I am already in the .535 or better range consistently...

Off the foot brake alone, we kept finding things in the front end that would change the RT, and since we have yet to have it super consistent off the foot brake week to week, we will go the route of least resistance.

The drum brakes would have to go, and I think we would need heim jointed a-arms. There is too much slop in the ancient originals.
