But one with a bit of a twist.... I currently have a fully built 8.75 in my Swinger that lived behind a 512 torque monster and propelled it to 9.75 with a 1.35 60' (2900 lbs). The rear is a 742 with strange 30 spline spool and axles, back brace, C/M yoke and M/W caps. I always swap out the ring and pinion after 300 passes and have never had any issues. I am putting a turbo'd 5.7 Hemi with a glide in it over the winter. Target HP is 800 (the 512 had close to 600). My question is, will the 8.75 live? I expect the car to launch abit softer with the turbo and glide. Also I will be switching the gears from 3.91 to 3.23's or less. Are the higher ratio ring and pinions stronger or weaker?
Thanks
Dave

MY opinion is that the lower the number the stronger the gears are. The turbo does in general have a softer hit. The biggest problem with the 8 3/4 is that there is not pro gears (Soft gears) for it.

With street type gears you are applying more stress on the gears... its easier to turn a 4.88 than it is with a 3.23(to get the weight moving)so you MIGHT have a issue but thats JMO
