What should I be looking for to determine I am viewing a suregrip unit as opposed to a non-suregrip? I am going to look at a center chunk outside of the housing on Monday. Thanks.

489 case. Would that be "cone." Thanks.

And I should have also mentioned that the unit I am lokking at has a small yoke attached. Easy to swap out to the large yoke?

Unless a 489 case has had a crush sleeve eliminator installed, the yoke can't be swapped without messing up the pinion pre-load. Chances are, it will still have the crush sleeve.

A 489 case would have a come with a cone type SG if originally equipped. Sure Grips will interchange between cases though, so it is possible to rebuild with a clutch-type.

I can fix it... my old man is a television repairman.

FYI... They do make a 7290/7260 conversion U-joint, so the small yoke isn't necessarily a show stopper.

Well...AWESOME! I really want this unit as it is close and has the 323 gearing. I am guessing Dr, Diff has the conversion kit?

Dr Diff is great, but no need to go that far. Should be able to get one through any parts store. Moog/Precision 347

Don't know where in CA you are, but if you are anywhere around Orange County, Powertrain Industries here in G.G. should have them on the shelf.

(I have got them there in the past)

Cass (DrDiff) is good people of course...but I've used these local guys to build a few driveshafts for me now, and always got real good service from them.
The driveshaft in my Torana is from them even.

Plus them being only like 10 minutes away makes it handy too.

You answered my next question. "Good source for a drive shaft." I live by the 55 and 22 freeways so very close to them too. Thanks much!

No problem...they are good to deal and not bad turn around times either.

And if you have never been there...they are just up the street from Hillco, big nut and bolt store. (thier prices have gone up abit from what they used to be but I guess that is happening alot of places) but handy if you are looking for things. You've got McFadden-dale to sorta over your way..but always handy to have different places to try for stuff.

(I'm just between Magnolia and Brookhurst off Lampson so real close to them for me.)
