with an Indy 2D. Man what a different in throttle response and overall crispness! 511 Indy Max Wedge Head (worked over by Compuflow) solid roller with an AED1000 CFM carb. Can't wait to drive it, just need to fix the brakes and get a new throttle bracket. What are you guys with the Indy 2D intake running for a throttle bracket?

Yep, a dual plane will really make a big difference at lower engine speeds.

Hughes Engines has throttle brackets that fit that intake and work with the stock throttle cable.

I LOVE the ported Indy 2d on my 517 Maxie.

You may be able to see my throttle bracket on YouTube. Type in Wizerulz.

I used the factory Automatic style mounted on 2 1 or 1 1/4" stainless steel 1/2" ID spacers I had fabbed. This was before Andy made his kit though. I'd use Andy's for sure now, I have one of his on my 414 small block.

I remember when I first changed to an Indy single plane. Although it was fast on the dragstrip, it really was poor driving in the pits relatively speaking.

I would like to see the track comparison and the rest of your combo. Over 500 CID makes up for a lot of poor "low end".

Thanks for the replies.
Jim - you are right, however I couldn't close the factory hood on my 69 Charger.
So I now have the dual plane installed. If anybody needs a hardly used at all
powder coated Indy single plane max wedge intake let me know.

Really !?! I've got a 526 stroker with the MW heads and Indy DP ... I was leaning towards an 850, possibly even with vac secondaries because I thought anything bigger would be unresponsive! How much street driving do you do versus strip? Is that a stick or auto car?

Oh ... I used Andy's brackets - I had to grind either the intake or bracket for the back bolt to fit - I ground the intake.

An 1000HP is probably the same as a 850. Carb guys call the 850 with a smooth air horn (no choke housing) a 1000, even though it doesn't actually flow 1000cfm.

I have been using a Indy single plane on my 493 for 9 years.
I drive it about 3000 miles per year with a 1100 cfm Pro Systems dom carb, and it runs great.
What problems are you having?

I use the Indy dual plane on my 493. The eng has only been in the car since last summer and the dual plane is the only intake I have tried. But I love it as the car has very nice low end grunt. Its a street/strip car and has run 10.70's so far on pump thru the pipes but I plan to work on some tuning this year and maybe get my hands on a bigger carb to try. I also run a standard Holley 850 DP and was thinking I need more carb as I had to jet it up alot from the old 440 combo I use to run and I mean alot as it wants alot of fuel. But it went faster with more fuel and I am not done yet. I would love to try a Dominator on my 63 with the dual plane and the single plane to see which it likes better.

As for my throttle cable I use the Lokar setup and it works great. And it is so simple to set up. You dont need any throttle bracket other then what they give you. It bolts on the back carb stud and the return spring also hooks to it. Works good for me and is very simple. Ron

I used Andy's other throttle bracket so I could retain the factory kick-down linkage. Like someone said, it needed a little tweaking too clear the runner. I believe that it was intended and designed for the RPM intake. I narrowed and chamfered the rear mounting leg as shown.

I've run both the 4781 and 950 HP on mine. My 950 has the 1 3/8" venturi. The 950 is better on the street and faster at the track. This car/engine spends 90% of its time at or below 2200 rpm.

I drove around without the hood, for a while and it still had a bookoo
of torque. I just couldn't shut the hood. Haven't driven it yet with the Indy Dual Plane, just fired it up. This is an 80% street car. My Combo: 1969 Charger

All of that work and measuring and it still wouldn't fit under the hood? Sorry to hear that, but it will still be more than reasonable for your "street" car.

There's probably 20+ HP in working the Lower plenum to "tweak" the 2 weaker runners on the 2D, the upper plenum runners already flow ~355-360 in MW form. With the radius work the ports will all flow about the same, look up the Roger Helgessen (Dr Air) article. Once you do those tweaks you have a dual plane capable of up to an over 700HP that gives unequalled throttle response and (most importantly) roll-on part-throttle torque that makes a 500" motor ALWAYS feel like 500", from wall to wall off idle to redline. ot knocking the Indy single, it's a great HP maker at WOT, but being a street driven car spends ~90% of it's time below 4K and at part throttle and below 75 mph, the 2D is just an overall more efficient torque builder, especially for a 3500+ pound mostly street car...you'll see I've run the single on a couple 493's, it's more of a 'light switch' , the torque is either 'off' ( yeah, it's good, but by comparison, maybe not as good as it could/should be) or 'on' ( but 'really' on).

For the street : I always visualize running the Motor on a road race type powerband, not a drag strip. The 'overall enjoyment regardless of road conditions means more to me than a few extra Hp 'bragging numbers' up top....maybe I'm just getting old. But I'll give up a couple tenths in ET if it would give me back seconds off a lap time....opinions vary I guess.

Nice looking engine. Yep, that KD throttle bracket was never intended for the Indy intake, but I can tweak the design next time I run a batch of them so they have a little more clearance in that area.

The Indy casting is super thick around the bolt holes. A Victor intake has about a 1/4 inch gap between the runner and the throttle bracket, but the same bracket rubs on the Indy intake.

Wize. Who has or does the port work on those lower runners on the 2D?

I've been running the Victor 440 4150 intake on my BB which is under 500 ci and with a stock port window for some time now and feel its a good torque maker but then again my car is under 3500 lbs as well.

I followed Roger's narrative that was published in the 5 page article but took mine a bit further in that I also enlarged both main plenums to help slow the peak airspeed at High RPM and make it hang on a bit harder up top. The #7 plenum transition needed the most work if I remember right.
