Not even close is right, I wouldn't go to a car wash that took the paint off

actually, that k-frame had little or no paint on it before it was hot tanked. It was not original to my car.

I guess the question should have been "clean it" or "prep it for paint"
Well put Mike...I would like to retract my previous statements and answer the OP's question..if you want to clean it...car wash. If you want to paint it..hot tank!

Depends what you are doing and your ultimate goals. I initially had mine blasted and then took it to be powder coated. During the baking phase to burn off any contaminants, grease/oil/grime oozed out from the seams. Let it bake for a quite a while and it just kept coming out with no end in sight. Decided just to have it hot tanked which got rid of all the crud inside and out.
