I thought all the MP distributors were either made by Chrysler or Mallory, but I've been wrong before. If it's a Mallory unit, it's easily adjustable. If it's a Chrysler unit, you either shorten the slots by welding or with JB Weld, then carefully file them slightly longer, reinstall, test, remove, file, reinstall, test, etc. until you've got the mechanical advance limited to what you want. I hope that makes sense.

Mopar Performance should offer that kit. The average guy isn't going to know that the MP distributor can use Mallory YH parts since MP never provides that info in their catalog.
It's in the 2007 mp catalog.
Kit contains six different primary springs, three different secondary springs and 2 degree key set, allowing you to adjust timing to your performance needs.

OK so I finally got the chance to tinker with the distributor today (BTW JimG, you were right it is a Mallory not MSD as I had been told). I decided that since it seemed to have 30 degrees of adjustment and I only wanted 20 that I should adjust it to about 2/3rds the distance of the slot. What can I say, I got lucky and nailed it the first time. Thanks for the sugestions everyone.

Yeah, I kinda figured that trial and error was the way to go, I really hate spending $30 on something that I'll probably only use once.
Thanks for the input gang!
If you don't want to buy the kit just pick up a 39 cent protractor at the stationary store and glue it to an old rotor with the center centered over the main shaft of the distributor. Tape a piece of coat hanger to the housing to use as a pointer. Then just twist the rotor against the advance springs to measure the advance and adjust as necessary.
You want to measure on the protractor 1/2 the number of crank degrees you want, remember the distributor turns at 1/2 the speed of the crank. So if you are looking for 20 degrees of advance in the distributor the protractor should read 10 degrees.
