Hi all,
I have a fairly unusual engine combination that I am interested in finding out a bit more about.

The engine is not apart but from what I have been told it is a 440 with a customised 426 crank which has a 4" stroke giving 482 ci.

I imagine that someone would have had to build up the crank to give it that stroke?

The rest of the engine is Edelbroke heads and inlet with Crane Gold series Rollar rockers, custom JE forged pistons, Carillo Rods.

The car is a 1966 Chrysler 300 with 18 spline A833, 8 3/4 LSD, TTI headers with dual 3" exhaust

Sounds like a nice motor with which to scare the woolies! If it is old enough it's probably a welded stroker which means the crank throws are welded up on the outside and the rod journals are then ground with a 4" stroke (or whatever stroke). It works out with a 0.060" overbore which is max for that block. The 4" makes me feel like it was done a long time ago. Modern times have produced a slug of cast and forged stroker cranks and those tend to be either 4.15" or 4.25".

You can't go wrong with JE and carillo, either.

That makes sense, from what I know the car was put together in 2005/ 2006. It does sound like a lot of works with the various stroker options around now.
I didnt know that worked out to 0.060" over though.
It goes well though I have a slappy piston (or 2) that are still abit audible when hot, I guess I will hold doing any work to it until it starts loosing compression.

The four inch stroke cranks where very poplular in the blown alcholol motors in alcholol dragsters back then, 2003 to 2007 It sounds like it has some very good parts, Carillo rods, JE pistons Only one way to tell, pull the pan and look for welding in the rod throw radius BTW, I bought my first six 4.25 stroker cranks from Ohio Crankshaft in 2001 or 2002 Crower, Lunati, Bryant, LA Billet, Winberg, Eagle and a bunch of other crank company where selling forged steel cranks before then

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

Cheers for that, not quite a blown alki motor but once I figure out some tuning issues (fouling plugs / noisy valve train) its going to to get alot of use even at US$2.20 litre (about $8.30 a US gallon) for premium.

4 speed in a C class Yacht is already abit of a giggle.

I was told it was in the March 2006 Hot Rod mag which are not not easy to come by here in NZ - no doubt I will find one at a swap meet one day

Cheers,
Unfortunately my Scotish blood is rebelling at the idea of spending $34.00 Including freight for a $6 mag.
Strangely I have no problems spending much more on car parts

I thought all cars down under had to be right hand drive.Do you not drive it on the street or is there a year of manufacture that dictates what is okay?

I think you would still have to weld to get the stroke that far out. If memory serves, 3.915 is tops for an offset ground stock crank with chevy rods.

When importing a car from the States we can get LHD dispensation for cars 20 years or older plus 'special interest' or cars that are not made in RHD.
Dealers are even selling brand new Challangers in LHD here (they aint cheap tho)
The Aussies do it tougher though, most cars have to be converted to RHD.

Still freaks the wife out sometimes siting on the wrong side of the car.
