Have a friend wanting to buy a new race transmission with a lower first gear. He is running a 3400lb 68 B-Body with a 499cid and a dana 60 with 4:10 gears. Currently foot braking.

Looking for any advice on who to buy one from such as ATI, A&A, or whoever else?

I guess someone forgot to tell all those funny car racers back in the late sixties/early seventies with their blown nitro motors hooked to torqueflite trannies that that's not going to work!

That lil shop on the west coast isn't too bad: Pro Trans in Lancaster. Dave has been known to build some pretty nice torqueflights.

North Central: Lofgren Auto Specialties in Minnesota, chuck originally built the trans that is in my race car. I had it updated/freshened by Dave at Pro Trans a few years back

Central US: by all means....John Cope is a very proven vendor and races what he builds.... actually all three of the guys I mentioned race their own Mopars!

I don't think that application needs a 1st gear lower than the stock 2.45 (TF). My advice is to get a list of the new parts that will be used, and compare the total price to that list.
ie
steel or aluminum front drum
billet rear servo
type of clutches and steels
planetaries
sun shell
valve body
deep pan (type)
etc.
