Hi there

Is it possible to use one green bearing and a regular bearing (non adjustable) on the other axle instead of two green bearing pr. housing?

You could try it on the non adjustable side first and see if the adjsutable side will loosen up or tighten up enough to get the recommended end play, .001 to .006 or close to that, on the thrust If not then use the other bearing

It looks like he wants to It says in one set of instructions I have with a set of green bearings that is the way to do it if your not replacing both sides

Hi guys,
Thanks for mulling this over, some more.

Like I said, this question just struck my mind and instead of contacting Mythbusters I wrote on Moparts with the predictable quick and favorable results. This is not something that I want to do, but I live a long ways from any decent parts store so sometimes necessity is the mother of invention. Now, me and others know that this is at least a possible set-up should the occasion arise.

Since the tapered needs the other side to be adjustable, it cant be used ever with a green, plus the green, if used with the other side a tapered adjustable, wouldnt like the side load it would have to take to get the tapered roller seated properly. two greens, or two tapered. not one of each.

Wrong, as long as the Tapered Timken roller bearings are limited on how much side movement they can make, IE less than .005 the OP should be good. OP if it is more than .005 use another green bearing on the other side also
