Troy's old 30K mile 70 T/A. This rear valance had never been off before. Only pics I happen to catch of that.

You might want to pay Troy to burn you some disks of the couple thousand pictures he has of disassembling, restoring, and reassembling that car. The Barry Washington yellow T/A CD's are very helpfull too, but they don't show the car being taken apart and the bottom was fogged with paint once.

Bottom 2 holes use studs and nuts with the integrated washers, top holes is a bolt with the same washer. all 10-24 threads.

Thanks for the replies!! I do have Barrys yellow T/A cd, and is a great help most of the time, but it did not have detailed pics of the rear valance.

So, another question is, what are the holes along the top for, and the two brackets behind the license plate area, how are they fastened? are the studs and nuts too?

1/4-20 double ended threaded studs go into U-shaped clips on the ends to attach it to quarters and are secured with captive washer nuts

10-24 hex head machine screws attach it to the 2 valance brackets on the bottom between the tips

10-24 machine screws ( could either be phillips head or hex head screws )

Some early Challengers had an additional set of right angle brackets in between the ends and the large brackets. They were small and held just the top of the valance. My 1970 Challenger T/A had those but my friends 1970 Challenger T/A did not. It held the valance by those additional holes along the top. Maybe someone can post a picture of them since I don't have a picture and I don't have the car anymore.

hmmmmmmmmm

optional brackets?
my valance, which i found on ebay as a NOS piece for 70-71 does not have any additional brackets, i wonder if this was how some cars are? i seen a few other valances with the brackets, looks like they are welded to the back of the valance and then bolted to the crossmember??

thanks everyone for the input thus far!!!

Sounds like you may have a legit rear valance. I went threw getting these differentiated myself. Here's the old thread with some pics that may help clarifying for you.

NOS and what was installed on the the assembly line are often two different things. Also NOS parts can change over the years they were produced for retail parts supply.

there is a kit available on ebay for about $20. i can't confirm the accuracy, but based on the photos in the above book, they appear correct (or damn close).
i just got done 'pre-fitting' mine before i weld the quarters on and took some pictures detailing the outer attachment points. email me if you'd like a copy or i can post it in the forum. It, however, does not show correct hardware.

cheers,
eric

I've got the kit in front of me. Yeah, it looks pretty close to those pics.

70 and 71 are not the same valence. 70 used brackets that were bolted to the car. 71 has the brackets as part of the valence.
