I have been thinking of putting my original 318 back into my 68 satellite. How can I get more power out of the engine before I put it back in?

Depending on your budget you can do a complete engine buildup overhaul, My 1974 318 has Keith Black pistons which brings the stroke up to a zero deck, 360 heads shaved down to 63 CC, Edelbrock 650 carb with a dual plane intake. The cam has a wide duration so it's a slightly rough idle but all in all a nice street engine in the Dart sport for under 1000 spent on parts.

Several ways you can go but, as said it also depends on your budget. On the cheap I would go Summit K6900 cam. Also, the 360 RV cam I hear is a good one don't forget to degree it in. Summit Headers, a good ignition system, a good timing chain, Weiand 8007 intake or Edelbrock Performer topped off by a 800 Thermoquad or 600 Edelbrock or 600 Holley carburetor.
Then run a 904 behind it and have a low gearset installed with a decent converter and TF1 or TF2 and it should run alright.

w/o pulling the heads... Summit t-chian set, Summit cam (smaller), 318 4bbl intake, 500-600cfm carb, Summit headers and 2.5 duals and it'd be a fun ride.

I would say, good intake, carb, headers, Magnum heads, and a cam in the 220 range for duration.

that combo put my 4,000 lb Dakota into the mid-14s in the 1/4 mile.
