Having a he!! of a time sealing the long water pump bolt that doubles as the power steering adjusting bolt on my fresh 318.

Drained the cooling system, pulled out the bolt, wire-wheeled clean the threads, blasted some brake cleaned in the hole to clean the block threads, let it dry for a few hours. Gooped the bolt threads with some permatex non-hardening sealer, re-installed it. Let it set overnight.

Re-filled in the morning, started it up, and......drip....drip...

This thing is killing me...any suggestions?

I always use either teflon pipe dope or teflon pipe tape. Seals and makes removal, even in aluminum, easy.

I use the same orange "hi-heat" RTV I use in the end exhaust manifold/header bolts on the water pump..never had it come back to bite me.

Go to your local GM dealer and buy a can of there thread sealer, all the early SB Chevy head bolts went into the water jackets. I use it and it works well

Trying to seal a straight thread such as a bolt thread is a female dog. A straight thread never tightens like a taper thread (pipe) will and thus the problem. For an adjusting bolt that gets turned after installation it becomes even more difficult. For me, the only thing that has ever worked in that type of application is Permatex Super 300.

FelPro Pro Lock Tight is an anaerobic thread sealer/locker that may be hard to find but is also hard to beat.
