I have my steering column out getting rebuilt for my 73 Challenger. The shop told me that my original ignition switch failed their electrical test. I looked up the part number in the 73 parts book and came up with 2947486. I bought this one off of ebay:

The shop is telling me that this one is not for a e-body as it has an extra small black wire on the end? They do not know what it is for, and they are not sure if they can just remove the wire? They are thinking it is for a c-body car?

Has anyone come across this before? Could someone post a pic of a correct e-body ignition switch?

Any help would be appreciated.

Here is a better pic of what I'm referring to. On the left is the NOS ignition switch, and on the right is the original removed from the car. My steering column guy thinks that the extra black wire is for a column shift car that has an extra light on the column. Can this wire be safely removed?

I'd look up the schematics for a C body & see if it has that extra wire and where it goes to. www.mymopar.com
