Anyone knows what can be used as a filler before powder coating? If I understand correctly they will heat it to almost 400*F , would lead work or is there something better? I m new to this but I bet some of you knows

You may want to build a jig for it also...as the heat can cause the weld stress's to pull and or push on intersections that cause the frame to distort after being heat sinked from the bake in a powedercoating process?

We use JB Weld at our shop.
May be hard to get it really smooth over tin work.

Hmmmm ... so the heat won't affect the jig ?!?!?!?
Actually the bake process doesn't heat the base metal anywhere near the powder "melt" temp, it basically only has to melt the powder. When the item comes out of the oven it can be handled with bare hands within about ten minutes - try doing that with something that was brought up to the full 400+ degrees!

NHRA general regulations mention "plating" of a chassis, but I am not sure about powder coating. Quote:
4:11 ROLL CAGE All cage structures must be designed in an attempt to protect the driver from any angle, 360 degrees. All 4130 chromoly tube welding must be done by approved TIG heliarc process; mild steel tube welding must be approved MIG wire feed or TIG heliarc process. Welding must be free of slag and porosity. Any grinding of welds prohibited. Plating of chassis prohibited for all cars manufactured after Jan. 1, 2003, unless otherwise noted in Class Requirements; painting permitted.

As i understand it chrome plating a chassis... if you get a scratch in the chrome it could cause it to create a stress risor crack in the chromolly? similar to the phenomenon in glass
as to the jig..and powder coating...we saw this happen...My chassis guy built Panoz race car chassis for a while and they had issues with fitment of parts after powder coating.. things like radiator mounting brackets and even suspension support members..and light or small tube brackets that where body supports.. often they would be way off..when it came time to mount the hardware.. he had to make temporary jig bars to keep these parts from moving during powder coating .. fwiw.
long tubes with lots of little welded do-dads seem to move the most...

A product called Lab Metal for moulding before powdercoat. Welding can introduce tension into the structure and so can fit up, tubing has already been welded along it's length. cycle frames have been known to relax from the pc baking process and walk(though typically smaller dia tube). Like stated above the longer the unsupported run the higher the chances.
It all depends how much tension is already there, but I have definitely seen where the baking process is enough heat to tweak stuff if the structure hasn't been "normalized" after welding.
Hydrogen embrittlement pretty serious , I cringe when I see plated suspension components.
