What is your budget? I guess you know that there are 4 types of commonly available cams? Solid flat, Solid roller, Hydraulic flat and Hydraulic roller..... I was ready to run a hydraulic roller until I checked priced... W O W !!! Its around $1000 for the cam, special lifters, the pushrods, the bronze distributor drive.... Too much for me. I went flat tappet and use better oil.
My 493 currently has the old dinosaur Mopar performance 292/509 hydraylic. It runs okay but I liked the Comp XE 285HL better. I wiped out 2 Comp Cams and decided to skip using them until they improved their manufacturing. It seems that they got the message, since they now offer an improved surface hardening option. I may go back. That Comp cam idled better and made more power.

right now it's a 440 with 906's stock exhaust manifolds

looks as thou it has squashed a piston so looking to stealth heads
it also has comp xe295hl and maybe this will be good for the new build ?

my engine came w/ a comp cams 588 solid roller, runs killer. However as mentioned it's not a cheap set-up. Are you going w/ roller rockers? Do you want to adjust the lash from time to time? What is the application? I'd think something in the 540-560 lift range would work well for you. Try one of the custom cam guys. They can grind you up a cam for around $200.

Along my research through the years I have collected the parts. Mine is a 505. Although my setup has Eddy's, Dual Quads, Hedman Shorties, and 727 w/ GVO. We only match the same compression. I went ahead and bit the bullet on the roller setup. Talked with a few guys and at the time I was doing cam selection, they were using less nickel in their casting at ALL the foundries. This was about 3-4 yrs ago. The guy who owned the speed shop I always bought parts from told me he wont sell me anything cam wise unless it was a roller, otherwise I should go back in 6 months and see it it had changed. . I bought the XR-280, went ahead and bought the roller lifters. The only thing I dont have are the pushrods because I am far from assembly. I decided to buy myself a present last Christmas and I have the Harland's on a boat thats docking next week.

I can't verify the cam, but my setup uses the one above...541/.537 ...Eventually I'll have to swap out the springs on the Eddy heads but no rush, do the springs on the Stealth's hold up?...The only thing I fear won't hold up against the torque would be the trans.

this will be for my cuda to drive, show, and a little track time
really like the stealth to keep it stock looking ( except for the headers)so i have to keep the six pack really been looking at the rollers (cost does play into that decision)all ready have comp rollers rockers also live at high elevation (7000 feet) so we generally need to build big to get what you sea level guy's have.
also wondering if the six pack works well with cnc stealth's and 500 ci ?

I'd probably port match and clean up the intake. I'd also add some jetting and squirtters to the six pack before you put it on. Once those hard metal lines are in place it's a PITB to get anything done. I went w/ 70 jets, 4.5PV, 35 squirtters and purple outboards.

I used the XE295HL in my 464 C.I. six pak motor, 440 block, 4.35 bore with 3.91 stroke, Eddy RPM heads,Harland Sharp 1.5 roller rockers, Eddy stock aluminum replacement six pak intake , vacume six pak Holley carbs, 10.4 to 1 compression. It ran good in the car, no way that cam can be mistaken or misrepresented as a stock 440 magnum cam If the cam is in good shape use it in the new motor, strokers motors eat up duration

Thats pretty close to my 505 combination.
505" 440, Stealth heads with some port cleanup and multi-angle valve job (289 cfm), 10.3:1 compression, Edelbrock RPM intake and 770 Holley (for now. want FI in the future.)
1-7/8" TTI headers, 2.5" TTI X-pipe exhaust, (if they fit) Walker Quiet flow mufflers.
Comp XR286HR-10 Hydraulic Roller cam, 236/242 @ 0.050", 0.617"/0.614" lift with 1.7:1 rockers (CAT stainless steel rockers. I have not verified the true ratio so lift may be a bit less?)
ISKY 8005A springs, Hughes Hydraulic lifters, Comp 478-16 10-degree retainers and the Comp 611-16 10-degree locks. Smith Brothers 5/16" dia. x 0.083" wall x 8.475" long ball/ball pushrods.
4-speed, 4.10:1 dana60, but looking to go 5-speed trans..

I wanted to build this on the mild side, just something nice to drive, not race.
It's almost done!

I think the '69 440 was supposed to be teal, but I like the Hemi orange better

Generally 68 Big blocks were Teal, 69-71 Magnums were orange (non mags were still teal) but I'm sure there were some early build 69's that had Teal colored motors.

All BB should be orange, no matter the year. Especailly in 68-up cars.

69 magnum engines (including 383's) should be orange.

WOW that looks great, thats exactly what I am working on right now too, haven't picked the cam though yet. Question how well did the 1.7 cats fit under the stock valve covers? Did you have to do anything to get them to fit? I am also interested in the cam select quetion here.

I had that cam in my old 440 and it works very well with a stick car.
My new 493 has a Comp flat solid grind XTQ 294 S It's a pretty mild solid cam with tons of mid range
