I think my steel hood on my '75 is 62lbs and that is with a little bracing removed and a 11" x 18" hole cut in it. Going through the same dilemia now with the scoop selection. I have researched until I am tired of thinking about it. The conclusion I have come to is that what works on one may not necessarily work on another. How the air flows over the front the car is a big factor in catching the "good air" with a forward facing scoop. Which means the shape, rake and mph all play a factor. Then you combine that with sealing or no sealing, filter or no filter, air bell or...ok I am going to stop now.

How fast in MPH does your car run now? I have raced two cars with a six pak scoop and a SS/AA Hemi scoop, both try to pull the hood off above 125 MPH My Duster has the SS/AA Hemi scoop on it, it is constantly trying to rip the front edge Dzuz fasteners off that hold the hood in the front, there are four of them. The two side ones attach to the fenders and the two middle ones attach to the radiator support I have four in the front, two on each side along with the stock hood hinges(springs removed) and two in the middle on the back side behind the scoop. My scoop is a NHRA legal 1968 SS/AA scoop, not the raised version thta is popular today in bracket racing.

draw a line from the top front edge of the hood to the top of the windshield.. the scoup would need to be higher than that line to actually catch air.. fwiw.. Don Carlton did alot of testing on that..
