My block was supposed to be 4.375 and the machinist honed it to 4.380 so I have .013 clearance already
Man, seems that could have been avoided. Did he have the pistons at the time of the machine work? Why should you pay for HIS mistake? Atleast from my view, I would ask for compensation.
He had the pistons and the paper work from Ross. This engine ran this year and the mistake was not found until it was taken apart for inspection so compensation won't happen. I fault myself for not checking the work on assembly.

Can you have them coated? Not sure how thick coating is but it may help.
When I looked into having my pistons coated.. I think the coating is good for .002 per side which will only be .004 total... and there's nothing to prevent the coating from scratching off..

The good coatings are only good for about .0005" on each side.

PC-9™ is commonly used to salvage a motor that has excessive piston to wall clearance. Vintage motors and other applications with hard to find pistons can have up to .004” of PC-9™ added to the diameter of a piston to tighten piston to wall clearance.

I have generally always gone with the 6.53" rod in that application. i like ot keep the bobweight as light as possible in a stock block deal for sure.
