Our motor build has literally been years in the works, so sorry for so many questions here.

So the motor we are building is 1970 440 with Stealth heads, Comp XE268H cam

This cam is pretty mild, so my question is about rocker arms.

My brother ran this same cam in his otherwise stock, smogger 440 with no problems whatsoever for several years. He did have the stock iron heads.

Now we are to the rocker arm stage, however the ones that we have laying around are too "loose" on the shafts to use. I hate to have new stealth heads and then top it off with old, worn stamped rockers.

OK....now my question. The shafts are great, no galling, pitting, etc. Are the mopar stamped rockers worth trusting in this situation?

If so, we will order the stamped rockers from summit (mancini stamped rockers are not currently available).

As you can expect, the engine is now coming together and the budget is almost gone, which is why we don't want to drop over $500 on rockers, but we want to do it right, too. (For those of you who follow, the money issue is also why we aren't pulling the trigger on EFI now also).

Anyway, sorry these posts are long, but I try to include as much information as possible so people know what is going on.

Thanks

eight

As a rule of thumb, the stamped rockers do fine under .5" lift. I think they would do fine in your application.

are the restamps of the rockers from mopar a good piece? I can't remember if I heard something about them being thinner or something?

I may be wrong...

I underatand all the re-pop stamped rockers are made to the late 60's/early 70's "heavy duty" specification. No problem that I am aware of. MA has a good article on them in the current edition.

The stock stamped rockers are loose on the shafts...
just as long as the lower flat area rides nice on
the shaft(thats where the load is at, not on the top
of the shaft area)... the problem point on any old stock
rockers are where the push rod rides... they do push
through

I picked up some rockers from Jegs almost three years ago on my rebuild and they seem just as strong if not stronger then oem. I'm running a 275DEH with 482 lift and all is well.

I may be wrong... ...................... READ the current Mopar Action for all info on stock rockers. Your comment about loose on shaft rockers tells me that you dont understand how stock RB rocker work and you OEM rockers are probally fine for that wimpy cam.

Running stamped MP heavy duty rockers on my 440, about 25 yrs now. Stock heads, .484 purple cam, no problems. They have been since re-installed on my new IndyEZ heads until I go with bigger cam. Had to measure for new pushrods.

I ran stock rockers, pushrods and rocker shafts on my stealth heads with a lunati voodoo 60303 cam. No problems.

I'll have to take a closer look, maybe even post some pictures here when I get some time. Some of them actually looked egg shape with obvious wear. I am sure the motor was oil starved at one point. (There will be another thread on that later with pics!)

The motor is not intended to be a 1500 hp monster. If it were, my cam and rocker questions would be very different.
