Hello all Merry Christmas , I have a silly question , have a rebuilt 440 but was rebuilt about 6 years ago and never fired , used the Chrysler steel head gaskets at that time , since it was not fired for all those years .. I tore it down cleaned and recheck everything, My Question is can I reuse the steel head gaskets over again since the motor was never run ???? It is just a stock compression 68 440 mild cam 470 lift nothing fancy , I know the head gaskets compress when torqued are theses a throw away and use new ???? Thanks

Spray gasket with aluminum paint and bolt together.

Yes several light coats of good quality aluminum spray paint and a flat deck/heads required

aren't the steel shims/gaskets fully re-useable? even after the engine's been run?

After firing for the head gaskets dead soft copper yes steel no, intake can get by w it and I'd even be leery of reusing these esp as they are so cheap but I think with some good spray alum paint he'll be OK IF the surfaces were both milled (or competently checked & found to be flat)during the rebuild EDIT and alum spray should be used the 1st time too
