Does a 58 Plymouth have a 6volt or 12volt system from the factory?

Hi, All 1958 Plymouths have 12 volt systems, so yes it does.

I just purchased a 58 plymouth that has a transplanted 440 and I was thinking of installing the 1970 up charging system, but was worried that this might affect the gauges, will I be ok?

Yes, You shouldn't have any problems. My 57 Fury has a 440 in it since the early seventies with an alternator, etc. I also had a few daily driver 57 and 58 Plymouths that I converted to electronic ignition and alternator systems.

I purchased the car with mounts grafted onto the frame already, they are not 50's era mounts, they are sixties setup.
But these cars were available with bigblocks, so you will have to do your home work, check out forwardlook.net for more info.

To do it with factory parts, you will need the V8 frame mounts, cylinder style motor mounts, and BB engne mounts (cans) which are differ ent than the SB ones. You will also need an early oil pan. I'm assuming you will be updating the transmission also which will require modifying the crossmember.

The frame monts look like this

The frame mount is something like this (this one is for a SB Poly motor).

If you're interested PM me I would sell the frame mounts and motor mounts....sorry I don't have the engine cans for a BB.
