the shackle flip and axle floped on top of the springs sets it right up for caltracs and lowers the truck 4-5 inches,it will give a nice drag truck stance, ride much better.

a few of the high HP trucks are running the flip flop,I did mine this way after seeing member 'clutch' blue drag truck with a wheels up launch.

very ez to do and uses all stock truck/car parts.

hers a shot of the shackle flip, you use a set of front spring hangers on the back, use car shock plates and u-bolts,wagon shocks...and now would be the time in your build as it apart and ez to get at.

heres a pic of member clutchs truck with a flip flop with caltracs set up in action. stock spring/flip flop/caltracs

your stroker should get it done with some stickys

i have done about 5 truck with the flip flop now after seeing his truck, works really well on a drag truck or a street bruzer

scratch, what are you running for springs on the rear? I'll have to check the wrecking yard for an accessible frame to get the mounts off off. It snowed a bit last night but now most of it is gone; so it will be easy to walk through the yard....

pic of my stepside when i did it,not to low but just right for the street.

flip flop and a stock front end

more work than just useing the long chebby shackles but much better ride and no wheel hop like a axle under spring has in a truck.

So clutch is using stock leaf springs, flip/flop and caltracs? Did he clamp any of the leaves? Nice, hard launch for sure..

i used my stock springs with the lower, thickest overload leaf removed, has 4 leafs per side

I used mono leafs with A-body lift bars/A-body 8 3/4/a-body shock plates/u-bolts on my 440 truck with a flip flop also, still working things out with the mono leafs but seem to have it working good with air shocks at 40 psi. it would drop and hit the frame when letting off of it.

just right now and the rear of the truck lifts about 5 inches and really plants the tires on launch.

IIRC it was stock leafs with the overload leaf removed and has 4 leafs..not sure if he has any clamps..I dont think it does.

mine dont and it has no wheel hop or leaf seperation.

its a tad lower than I like but it sure lifts and hooks so far.

IMHO,the lift bars do the same thing a caltrac does, just applys pressure on the spring from the bottom instead of the top.

may not be as good as a caltrac set up but it has the old skool slapper bar look I was after.

my front is higher than the rear so I am going to drop the front 1 or 2 inches next.

oh! one side note on the shackle flip...you turn it around 180* so the shackle does not bind on the leaf when its fliped...you will see what I am talking about when you get there..

when I removed the stock rear hanger,i used the top front hole and drilled the other 3 holes and used 1/2 bolts/nuts on the frame.

you have to have the shackle bolted up to the hanger when you bolt it on as the spring bolt is captured by the frame and bracket.

hardest thing is removeing the rivets from the hangers

Thanks scratch; your' yellow truck looks great I'd like to see a pix of the installed caltracs on a d150, especially interested on how the caltrac bracket functions inside of the stock front hanger. Maybe I'll do a search to see if there are any pics. Thanks for the great info and inside tips on this topic..

Hi jeff hows the RC comeing along?

check out the shackles and mounts on this oldie but goodie

i should also note..flight727 was the other insperation for me to sell my 68 dart and put the A-body 8 3/4 and 12" rims in my 85 truck

i would never even had the thought of such a thing with out him showing me the first pic of his stepside.

and the RC should be just as sweet build wise.

IIRC,this truck is long gone now but it got me to rolling

for the cost of Cal Tracks,on top of the cost of finding the other mounts I believe it would be cheaper and a lot more adjustable by going to a 3 link or 4 link rear suspension. with that frame stripped it would be so easy..

more tire room + Fattys.

I am truckless..

Thanks guys for the inputs/ideas; I am going to see what quickd100 has for his setup and decide where I will go from here. I have to take advantage now as it is stripped down and would be very easy/convenient to do it now rather than later.....Keep posting on this thread as I really appreciate the advice...

right now it has stock truck/ ramcharger shackles, & they will stay there till it's complete & see how it sits & adjust from there. my old truck used A-body shackles & mounts bolted to 4"X4" square steel tube mounted to the frame.(see the pics that scratchin' posted)

thanks sctatch- the ramcharger has been on standby since my daughter was born in may of '09. we live in a condo & all my junk is at my parents farm a ways away, so until we can get a place of our own w/ a pole barn or a big enough garage (soon hopefully) it will sit.

BigTerry, I'd start a new thread and I am sure you will get a lot of responses. While looking for shackles for my truck I noticed there are lowering kits out there.
