seriously concidering replacing my w2/w5 erson rocker this winter with T@D's or Harlan Sharp's now come's the tricky part, my valve springs are 1.625 dia and most rocker companys only go up to a 1.550 spring, I was told that they can clearance them a little more but that also weaken's the rocker and I really dont want that issue, now the only other thought was to go to a smaller dia spring, I am not sure of the full open pressure but I do know they are 235# on the seat as I have a tester and do check them a couple time a season,,,my question is which way would you guy's go if this was your motor,,clearance the rocker's or smaller dia spring, if one is available at that seat pressure for the roller cam that I use.

My cam is just a little bigger also and I use a 1.56 spring with the HS 1.6 rockers and they clear fine.

"Lift" is insignificant here. The rocker is closest to the spring and/or retainer when the valve is closed so installed height would be the only other thing that might impact the clearance.
The lift figures were being quoted I believe as a form of comparrison for open and closed valve spring pressures in a 1.55 size.

thats the way I understood it also, but I also understand that the clearance is most critical at the fully closed position and that my friend's is where I am having my issues, I am going to have to find a set of 1.550 springs that will give me 240 to 250 on the seat at an installed height of approx 2.020 ( cannot get the tip of my calipers between the spring and pocket of the head), untill I get the head's pulled and disassembled then this is my best guess, a 1.950 installed height may work also, these head's are seriously due for a freshen any way.

The post started with the OP being concerned about clearance between the rocker and spring. Everybody seems gung-ho to spend his money on a new set of springs. MY POINT is that the size difference is minimal and should not cause any clearance issues. Hell, replace the rockers as intended and try them on the heads. If they contact the sping THEN change those.
I agree but small blocks are considerably different than big blocks when it comes to the valvetrain and clearances. A 1.625 spring will not clear my HS rockers on my W5's. There is at most .010 between the the spring and rocker at 2.0 installed height with my 1.56 springs. Just saying.
