I just started putting plug wires on my 440 and noticed #5 and 6 both are really tight to my Hedman headers, like touching. I'm using 7 mm NKG Blue high temp silicone 250* Celsius + Not sure what that is in Fahrenheit, but I suspect it is less than those headers will get. They are angled plug wires. I'm using those fiberglass socks as well but they wouldn't fit on #5 and 6 either. I kind doubt they would help anyways. I'm looking for any suggestions. I was thinking maybe a straight plug connection. Last choice I guess is a BFH

I used MSD bendable boot wires - different setup but similar problem. They worked great.

Do all you guys have Hedman headers and what brand wire are you using ??? I'm just wondering why mine are so tight. I mean Zero clearance.

Double the Celsius temp., subtract 10 percent and add 32 = Fahrenheit temperature.

250 times 2 = 500
500-50=450
450+32= 482 degrees Fahrenheit

yes, i have Hedman and power steering so imagine how tight it is. i have used both Accel and MSD wires with straight boots. i have no preference in brand to speak of except Accel is yellow and matches my car but i always ohm the wires before and after i cut and crimp.

A little simpler I think: (C x 1.8)+32=F

If you post some pics up, I'm sure can can help with what boots might work better. I've got hundreds of pics of different header/boot combo's. Just not sure on the type of some of the headers. I can send you some boots if you decide you need some higher temp. Don't hammer on your headers if all it will take is a different boot.

I'll remember that one. I am converting temps all of the time and the other way is quicker for my old brain.

i actually went with DOUG'S headers, absolutely no problems, plenty of clearance, change plugs in 10min. but as said go with whatever boot fits, hammering headers a last resort

I have Hedmans on a 440 and I run Taylor's 45 degree wires. They don't touch but they are close.

If the fiberglass boot sock is actually touching the header it won't last long...It'll burn and turn white...Then it actually holds the heat in worst than if you had nothing around it...

I used Taylors on my old 440 and the set had 2 straight ends and the rest were 90's. The set worked great with plenty of room and I had Hedman 1-3/4 headers on it. Ron

Talk to Rick sunroofGTX. Get a set of custom Firecore wires. He made a set for me 67 Coronet wth 383 and Hooker Super Comp headers stock heads and the wires fit perfectly.
