Sorry if this is a noob or repeat question. I love Moparts but it has the worst search function of any board I've ever been on.
If you have more than enough power to brake the tires loose, is there any point to installing a high stall torque converter? Wouldn't it just make it harder to launch?

Truth. Go to google and type site:board.moparts.org 'whateveryouwanttosearch' and it will give you the results.
Until you put stickier tires on it, raising the stall will bring it closer to your peak torque, which in theory will make it easier to spin. Obviously this all varies based on chassis, motor, etc etc etc... But it's a reasonable generalization. Once it hooks though, it makes a substantial difference in the first 60 feet.
11.48 @ 120 with a 1.80 60' 318, stock 1.88 heads, stock 904, Pump Gas, 13 lbs of boost.
9.94 @ 134, 318 on pump gas, 14 lbs w/ Eddies, transbrake 727, 3600 lbs, 3.54 gear and 28's.

Also cleans up the idle for street, less effort needed to hold the car back against the brakes, less likely to stall or resist on heavy braking, less likely to knock at low speeds from too aggressive spark curve.

A loose converter won't shock the tires as much, and gives the suspension a bit more time to transfer weight. In a
moparts thread about them I asked if the FAST cars run very loose converters and the answer I got was dead silence, like i had touched on a well guarded secret.
