Did stock 383 magnums come with 1 bolt or 3 bolt cams? I'm going to re-cam the 70 383 in my 71 Power Wagon for low end torque & didn't want to pull the timing cover off to find out. I've heard the factory installed whatever they had on the line, so not all hp motors got the 3 bolt cams??

No 383 ever came with a 3-bolt cam, the only Wedge to get one was the 440-6.

only 2 motors ive seen with 3 bolt cam gear factory are 426 hemi and 63/64 426 max wedge
1970 and 1971 440-6pk would have come wit ha 3 bolt cam.
and with same specs than the 440 HP I think... right ? only diff from these is the 3 bolts setup
No , the 440 4 bbl had lower compression ratio than a 6pk , 9.7 ...

Thanks Randy & I was thinking of switching, but Summit's cam is only $54 & that's hard to beat & made by Crane, too. But if I ever decide to swap the 383 for my 451, maybe a 3 bolt setup would be a better selling factor if I decide to turn it loose. But being in a truck, I think the one bolt would be fine. Hope you've been able to enjoy some top down crusin w/ the Chally.
The number of bolts in the cam has to do with the valve action of the cam.
I really don't think a 1 bolt vs a 3 bolt would be a deal breaker in selling an engine .

Thanks John. Summit's 6400 cam has a power band of 1500 - 5K, lift @ .050 is 214 int/224 ex & advertised duration of 272/282. Lift is 442/465 & has a 112 centerline. Do you think this would be a good cam for the truck? (3.55's w/ 35" tires.)
