i was having problems with my car burning coils up not starting so i unhooked the original positive wire to the coil and hooked up a jumper dirrectly to the battery car starts and runs but when i take of the positve wire off the car continues to run. so i turned key off and car shuts off and starts back upwith out a wire on the positive side of coil...i guess my question is what is the positve wire for?

When you say you removed the positive wire did you remove the one from the battery you installed also?

Thats fantastic! Could you by chance have the + wire to the negative side? Coil needs juice to set up the field, the ground colapses the field stepping up the secondary voltage to zap the plug. If there is no electricity (6-12V) to the coil, im stumped. Now a CD ignition sends 300V to the coil of the bat, are you running one, maybe hooked up wrong?

It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

the diagram looks right but as stated above juice has to be supplied to the coil. even if your wiring was reversed without a wire on the other side of the coil the path is broken. is this a 'trick or treat'?
