Has anyone done any reserch on this stuff? I just bought some to add some to my 4240. Well, I bought a gallon for 23.00 its 10w30, and far cheaper than joe gibbs, the comp cams stuff is 5.25 a qt, and you have to ship it inn from summit, or someone. Im going to try this stuff on the 440 I have. John deere recomends 50-100 hrs on this oil depending on how hard the tractor is being used, and since mine is basically a loader tractor for moving bales, im going 100 hrs. It seems like decent stuff, has a lot of zink inn it, and it says right on the back "may be used to break in any rebuilt engine"

Has anyone on here used it? If it works on a my 140hp, 789 lb ft turbocharged diesel, then it should work in any race engine, or street engine I would think.

What kind of oil are you supposed to run it after break in?

John deere dosnt really spec any brand, just to run 15w40 diesel oil after break in.

Not that great of a deal..23.00 a gallon =5.75/quart.. I am pretty sure that it is another brand of oil rebadged for Deere...

Considering how expensive the joe gibbs stuff is, or the fact that you have to order the comp cams stuff, It isnt that terribly priced, and every john deere dealer accross the country has it. I dont think its too bad really.

Yep, I use it on my engines. Worked for a Deere dealer for years, used it on all engine rebuilds. It has some outstanding specs. Don't have the specs in front of me, I'll see if i find them.

I don't know, it may be great oil but there's something that just doesn't seem right about using farm implement oil in my race engine.

Yep, and this tractor is only suposed to make 90-110 hp, but dad had a turbo kit from john deere put on it. I can make more, but the tractor really dosnt need it. The hp/torque comes inn at like 1200-1900 rpm, I think its all done at 2200 rpm. Its a 404 ci engine.

Since I have gotten the tractor I have wanted the service history from his dealer there in torrington, but they havent gotten around to sending it to me. I think Im going to call them and have it faxed to me. I enjoy pulling in the local farm class, but they have certain spec requirements, and I need all his service history so Im not illegal, and not supposed to be in a heavier class.

This reminded me to call them...

Its good oil, but designed for low RPM and heavy loads on bearings, not the best choice for a high RPM motor, but great for what it was designed for, I run some very good Exxon Mobil "1005" in large industrial engines, but wouldnt use it in a race motor. IMHO anyway

So would this be a good oil to use for the break-in of flat tappet engines?

Yes it is. It's 12ppm Zinc. Was more but in the past year or so EPA screwed that up.

yes those motors are that far apart..my dump freightliner cummins motor is factory 280hp/1050tq, next yr it will be 350/1450 lol....gotta love the pull of a cummins

BRAD PENN OIL 10w 30 i broke my motor in on it and run 20 passes on that oil and change it and put 50 passes on a oil change and that oil looked new the best oil i have used and i run ALCOHOL.

Paying $5+ a quart for break-in oil is a waste of $ IMO. Any good grade of 10-30 / 10-40 petroleum based oil with a zinc additive ( and there is lots to choose from ) will do just fine in almost all applications.
