A buddy of mine had a shop put a very built 468 eng in his 69 Camaro looking to go 10's. He has not raced it yet and the fastest car he has ever raced ran mid 13's. It has a roller cam and aluminum heads with the normal goodies and 4.10 gears. Has a 5-speed also which is a plus for me because he cant drive the stick very good at the track. Course my car is a 493 which is the 440 block and 4.15 crank with Indy EZ heads and a solid flat tappet cam. I feel very sure my car will go at least 10.80's as I had problems last time out and still ran 11.0's. It was very lean but I have jetted up now. I plan to go again on Oct 8th and am trying to get him to go. Last time I went he said he was sick ! I hope he is not one of these guys who run their mouth but never show up. I really think that even if his car could run 10.50's it would be lucky to go 11.50's with him driving. It seems to be pretty fast and I would guess it should run in the low 11's or high 10's with a good driver. Well I hope to know after Oct the 8th. Ron

That's cool. I have a good time ribbing buddies with poor taste in vehicles. The problem is I don't have anything to prove I like the superior product, so I don't really talk too much smack. Lol. Soon, though...

BTW, my uncle drove a '63 Plymouth wagon for YEARS. I have had a fascination with that grill and body ever since. Love your ride. Sometimes looking at something for years will, especially when you are very young, can make that car stick with you forever! Which is why I love '66 Coronets and tons of people don't. (My dad has a '66 Net ragtop. Bought it before there was a me) Sorry for the off topic yapping!

How's his chassis??? Those cars have an absolutely terrible factory leaf spring arrangement without GOOD traction bars. Your car has proven track times. I think you will spank him.

Thanks all. Not knocking the guy but I was in his other 13 second Mustang when he did his shifting and believe me he dont know how to launch a stick car and I dont think he knows what power shifting is. I just dont think he can drive the car to its capabilities. Plus he has no frame connectors or rollbar which I told him to put a minimum of a 6 point rollbar in it. And I lent him a pair of my 28 x 9 slicks. As long as my car runs fine I should see easy high 10's which I think should cover him. He already knows I went 11.0's with problems so maybe he is having second thoughts. But it is all in fun as thats what makes this hobby so cool. Ron
hope you do well Ron..
how healthy is that 468 he has...
I'll run him against my Camaro if I lived closer..LOL
and mines a SB w/4spd...
sounds like good fun..I use to get that stuff from my friends all the time about who's car is quicker and such...till I gave them a ride..stopped that noise...
perhaps next year I'll have my 63 Dodge ready for the streets...have fun...

The 468 sounds very healthy and was said to run 11.0's in a Chevelle that it came out of. I cant wait to see you 63 Dodge when its done. Ron

Never sleep on a stick car guy that says he's never really accustomed himself to the combo. He may be bluffing. Mind you, he has more to deal with on his lap but Like said above, race your own race and if anything, keep a slight ear for his shifting. You'll know if he's on your tail or in a hail of parts. If you have the lead in the dance, keep him at bay for the re-match.
Keep us early B-bodies cats proud. Best.

Believe me he is not a sandbagger about his driving as I am sure he thinks he can shift with Ronnie Sox. I have seen him race his 13 second car and watch him in this car with old motor (396) that it ran 13.30's with. I know from watching him that I could go much faster in his car myself after watching him shift. But I do feel with a good driver this car has the ability to spank me if done right. With a good driver and good tire it could be a 10.50 car. I just dont think he will drive it anywhere close to that. And it would need to be tuned right also to run solid 10's but if done right it could run mid 10's. I think our cars could be withing 2 tenths of each other but I dont think I have to worry that much or at least I hope so. Ron

Good luck Ron, I'm sure you will beat him with it being a stick car & you say he can't leave good, But i will say this, In Texas Don't think for a second you'll be kicking ass on the chevy boys, Most of them are on there game, Don't know what bow-tie guys you have around there, But around the parts i lived in Texas, you don't challenge them, Especially in a Mopar , There called Slopars down there, I ran 10.8s, 10.9s & on a few accasions had my ass handed to me by 468 Camaros/Novas & even SB ones, One buddy of mine had a small tire 69 468 that ran 5.7s every pass NA & it was tagged & stickered , He weighed 300 lbs. too boot, So you guys must have some slow ass chevys in your neck of the woods, or guys who can't drive. I'm sure you'll have this one, But if it was an Auto car .

I'd ask to see under his back seat if I were you...seen it Guy hides his NOS under the back seat and runs the juice under his intake. He also claimed he was "all motor" and it was another Chevy guy that called him out.

Another thing to about, is the fact of your starting line advantage with your 727 setup. Regardless of how "well" the driver of the Camaro is with the clutch, he'll still have to deal with the shock to the rear wheels, IF the chassis is NOT "dialed-in" correctly for that particular motor's power /torque levels. So, I guess with that thought, Ron, you will probably "cut the tree" (good light/60ft) and the "firewood" will land on his lane where he'll just go "up in smoke" (poor traction/reaction time)!! Good luck, my friend

If he puts a real bias ply slick on his car you'll probably have a run for your money. If he is going to attempt it on drag radials, hopefully he doesn't mow down some guardrails with it.... Either way you'll look better headed down the track.

with ya, Mr. Y.!! Rat motors, regardless of size, do benefit WELL from some sort of assist or "crutch". The ones with stratospheric rpm potentials use it the most. The "under the intake" system is tricky to detect though, but sometimes adds LESS than the rated amount of power it's capable of. Muscle-wise, a well thought out combo that is CONSISTENT in performance, WILL outgun any "put-together", non-tuned combination nearly all of the time. Keep on track with the tree and run YOUR race. If you're heads up at the last 100yards or less from the finish, it's a good race! Only worry if he leaves before you, but doesn't "red-light"!

Nuts! Ron, Capitol is having a Wounded Warrior Outlaw Pro Street Final Race on Saturday Oct. 8th. Why don't you come down there with your fine 63 so that so I can see you open a can of whup a$$ on him. Seriously... I can't think of a better way to spend the day... spank a camaro AND help some heroes.
I think you'll take him. If you hook, he's toast. Heck, I've seen your car hook and get some air with friggin air shocks... Your new motor sounds like it's pretty stout. I think your new combo would give me a pretty good race too. If he won't race you, I will =P

If I didn't already have plans I would consider Capital. But my buddy is going to Cecil with his Cuda as we plan to drive up together. Unless he changes his mind I already told him I would go to Cecil. Now that I jetted up I think the car should have at least 10.70's in it. If I am right we would be a good race. Ron
