I am getting ready to do exactly that.
First off, If it is from a truck you need to get a car pan and pick up.
Second thing you need is a 360 flywheel or if you have a 1/2 way competant machine shop they can balance yours to 360 specs, if you know the specs yourself you can figure out where the weight comes off and figure out how big a hole to drill and drill out the weight yourself.
Third is the slightly different motor mount, I don't know if an aftermarket mount is available or not but I always just put some washers in to take up the space and use what I have.
The balanceer needs to match the 360 and you will need to make TDC mark to match up wioth the pointer from the 273, they are in different places and setting timing will be a crap shoot. One of the bolt holes is in a different place for the crank pulley but no biggie to slot the one that don't line up so you can get a bolt in.
A factory 4bbl intake would be cool but restrict HP a bit so mabey get a performer RPM.
The 273 block has a divot in the side for drivers side ex manifold clearance, if you run manifolds mock it up on the stand and see if you need to grind a little clearance there.
Pretty much everything else bolts up the same.

Hey,I've already done this one too,I have a '66 Barracuda, originally a 273 2bbl/4speed car..I put a 360 in it in 2009,I had my local machine shop balance it using the 273 flywheel,360 balancer{the one without the extra "lip" around the front side},the rest of the install was easy, the original bellhousing and exhaust manifolds,as for the drivers mount,I used a extra nut instead of washers,,I've put around 8500 miles on it since,no problems. There's a couple pics of it in the October issue of Car Craft, took it on the Anti Tour 2009. One side note though, because the clutch is so small,I had the pressure plate made to handle the extra torque, works better, should of had increased a bit more,,haha....good luck on the project.
1970 'Cuda,Lime Light,499 Indy S/R's 10.70's @125,street driven ALOT! 1966 Barracuda 360,now a 5spd,Hemi Orange,Hot Rod Air, New daily driver-2003 Ram 2500 Cummins 5.9 '69 Valiant 2-dr, sleeper! New project---1938 Dodge truck, plan is a 360 with a A500, AC, Calvert rear susp., rack and pinion front with coils.

pass car pan/pickup. Slight shimming of mtr mt on one side. machine shop will take the MP diagram & do the trig to figure exactly where to drill to convert your 'wheel to ext balance. Retain a cast WP to match your rad lower nipple/adj pulley spacing w spacers/washers. the hose/tim marks will b on the same (dr) side but you can see em if you angle the light just right. Need to retain the 273 logs which are very restrictive (1&7/8) esp on the dr side but on early A's there's a tremendous variation of tolerance stack ups & 340 HP mani's have been known to fit as is or may have to shorten the coupler to 1/2 it's length/refit the crimp on connector, alot of work but the 273 manis are (as you know) extremely restricted and parts houses have 2 sets of ex gaskets (head to mani)large or small so get the ones you need so no leak. Ain't done it but prob could use a PS col (actually the inner shaft which EASILY swaps) which is shorter w manual steering box & a firm feel adapter extension to slide by the manifold. alot of work but ex is critical & it'll b a dog if you do not adress that issue

Those manifolds are bad but not death to an engine, I had a bone stock 77 360 short block under a bone stock 273 4bbl top end in a 66 dart and it pulled good to 5000 rpm with those manifolds and drag strip testing backed that up for shift points. It went through 7.25 rear ends like toilet paper. With well thought out cam specs, ported heads, intake, tuneing... it could still make some good steam with those restrictive manifolds. Others will make more power but the freebies are not gonna be the death of a motor.

Alright, some more good info! I have manual steering on my car and the parts car. I had a guy come over my house a couple years ago trying to figure out why his 360 65 valiant was a beast up until 3500rpms...then would kill over. I looked at those 273 manifolds he had to reuse and I said..."those manifolds are killing everything you got!" so I definately know about those manifolds! Out of curiousity how come no one has made a header to exit out of the front of the engine? Clearance when exiting under K frame?
I have a set of Jet-Hot coated Spitfire headers that I don't use anymore. PM me if you're interested.

Ain't used the Spitfires but the 340HP manifolds w their free flowing design/pretty easy fit/2&1/4" outlets are an excellent plan

We make the clutch linkage parts (torque shaft, bellhousing ball bracket, adjusting rod kit, etc) to convert 1963-66 A-bodies to the 10.5" bellhousing. We can also provide a flywheel for the cast crank 360.
