Putting a new engine in the car, 523" roller cam, etc. was wondering if there is an off the shelf oil, that is better for engines during the initial break in period? And how long to leave the breakin oil in the engine? Will be using Mobil One 20-50 Synthetic after the first oil change. Also this motor will be race only, so looking for the best break in procedure?

I use BRAD PEN OIL 10w-40 it`s the green oil if your motor is clean break it in on same oil you are going to use and run it a race or two then change it but on my 572 i run it 3 warm ups and change it before i raced but on my motors i did have in the car i run 5w-30 GTX good luck.

With the low tension rings now days, and a full roller set up there rearry isnt a "need" for break in oil. Most break in oils just have high zinc content for the cam. I never used it in my good engine, its a full roller 408, and I piss pounded it from the beginning, and have no issues. I run Brad Penn 20W50 in mine, and I havent made any extra holes in it yet.

*Another vote for the Brad Penn. I get it from one of the local machine shops (I've never seen it sold in any of the local auto-part stores).

My opinion, forget about zinc additives and use Brad Penn break-in 30 wt oil (or equivolent j gibbs). When everything is factored in, the BP wont cost you any more and you will get an oil with an additive recipe carefully designed for exactly what you are doing.

I use regular 5W20Wt Valvoline in all of my motors from day one, race or street. I do use a cam oil additive(zinc or Comp Cams) if they are not steel billet roller cams I agree with Mike(MR Pbody) on not using synthetic to start a new motor out on but a lot of the new cars come that way(synthetic oil in them) If the custmer wants a "race oil" to start with then I use Pennzoil 25-50 WT race oil, it is way slicker than most other oils
