I was looking at budget street dampers on the Summit web sight and found a Pioneer damper that sounded more interesting than the rest. It is of a tad smaller diameter and lower weight than the rest of their product line(p/n pio-872054). I was wondering first if any of you have used this damper? And second it would seem that there should be an advantage to using this damper since it's lighter and of smaller diameter. Your thoughts and advice are appreciated. Oh, the engine is 340 based stroker(414), torque oriented build.

I bought the MP thin a engine damper, part # 4452816. Same dimensions as factory damper so no pulley alignment issues. The lowest price I saw was at www.mopartsracing.com.

Regardless of brand....was it an SFI approved unit and was he fast enough to require one? Was it installed correctly and/or modified in any way?

I've been using a neutral balanced SFI unit from Pioneer, also available from Jeg's under their label, for years without problems, externally or internally!

I have the Summit SFI dampner on my 340, my machinist said it was a good piece for the price. Haven't had any issues with it. 70 passes so far this year and a couple thousand street miles.

I used the Summit's brand damper (p/n sum-c4277) on my 340/416 stroker build. Nice piece. The crank is a Scat cast crank which resulted in an external balance. In my case, the counterweight (sum-65278) kit was also needed and a flexplate with additional off-set weights were required.

I was hoping to do what you're suggesting and get away with a lighter damper etc. However, it didn't end up being the case in my build. I think you are pretty much dictated by what your machinist suggest.

Sorry for the slight hijack - but do you have a pic of this damper? The pic on Summit's website looks generic (or maybe I'm wrong).
Thanks,
Ran

In the plans - rear disc brakes, B&M 250 blower
