What's your favorite street/strip battery for a car with an electric fuel pump, electric water pump, and an electric fan? My car has 13.8 volts with everything running and is still draining my Autozone Duralast Gold 800 CCA battery.
I'm thinking a red top battery may be the best bet but really can not spend $180+ dollars on a battery right now. Anything affordable out there?

you're going to get a lot of opinions here. too me it boils down to weight. the more lead you have, the better it will be. i've used them all. i tend to like the interstate batterys that have divisions in them to keep the lead plates from ever touching with severe use. also if you have to hot charge between rounds, i believe the acid filled batterys will last longer. the AGM batteries have no acid or level that need to be maintained, so it's just what the mat has absorbed. it will cook off quicker in the long run if hot charging. all in all, there all pretty dam good. thats my 10 cents.

Not the battery... you better look at the alt or wiring...
the battery is nothing but a holding tank.... unless
it wont take a charge.... at Chrysler looked into
the Optima batteries for production but found they
werent that good

Pbody, I had the car checked on a machine with the car running and everything turned on including the headlights and it seems to be charging fine. Just seems that after cruising to a few places a day the battery gets weak and eventually hard starts. The guy at the shop said he thinks it's just the battery not holding a charge very well. Actually, if it sits in the garage for a week w/o being charged or driven it hard starts, won't turn over fast enough to start.

Well if it doesnt have a small draw on it then ihe
battery has a weak or dead cell so it cant hold the
charge... did he do a load test on the battery...
that would have shown a battery issue

try another battery. if your car still does what you are saying it does, more than likely its in your wiring or alternator. i agree with mr p.

i had the exact same problem after i upgraded my fan to the hhr fan. i tried the optima red top and hated it. made the situation worse just didnt have any reserve capacity. i thought seriously about going with 2 batteries but i decided to first try a new march crank pully that was 6.5 inches in diameter instead of the underdrive pully that was 5.25. the pulley has fixed the problem. in a street car with an underdrive pulley i just spent to much time at lower rpm where the powermaster alternator wasnt charging. i used to have to jump start the car if it didnt fire right up but now i can crank it for a good while cause the battery stays fully charged ( diehard gold)

My drag car runs 2 800amp regular batteries in the trunk & a 1-wire GM alternator. No problems.
Electric fan, water pump & vac pump and MSD6. Headlights if racing @ night.

I already ditched the 5" crank pulley for the larger March pulley a couple years ago.

I'm not sure how many tests were done on the battery. Butch sent me home with a battery to try so I'll be doing that today or tomorrow.

I've considered that also, 2 good batteries wired together properly.

My car likes ballast anyway, so it's been a win/win.

I run Interstate batteries, have one in just about everything I own including the race car, they just work.

I have a 1000 cca group 24 lead acid on my Dart, it's six years old now and still going strong. Not sure who made it, no major brand name, just a local battery store.

These work well up north. My lead acid batteries always froze in the winter and died. I have not had one of the red tops go bad yet, and they are pretty small in comparrison and they don't leak any acid onto my paint.

For something budget friendly....the Johnson Controls manufactured batteries that Wally World sells are good pieces...especially the "upscale" ones with the yellow case.

At least I have had good luck with them.

I've had good luck with Optimas on my race car with a small, 50 amp alternator. But I also charge it between rounds because of the water pump and fan draw on it. I currently have an Odyssey 1500 and have been very happy. (Maybe a 1200, I forgot at the moment.)
As for price, I was told that the Sears Platinum Die-Hard batteries are the same thing as Odyssey, just relabeled, and less expensive. But I haven't been able to confirm it 100%.
