To get the lengths corectly you really need to measure your motor with a checking pushrod
I have Harland Sharps on my 440-1 , they need two different lengths to get them perfect, exhausts are shorter than the intakes because the intake rocker arms are offset
My SR heads use a different type(ball and ball) and length than the 440-1 do because I used a set of single shaft T&D on them
What type of spring pressure are you using now? Do you know the specs on the two different pushrods you used? especially the ones that bent or broke
Are you using a flat tappet solid lifter, hydraulic flat tappet lifter or solid roller lifters? It makes a difference on which pushrod wall thickness you should use
