I was wondering if I have the correct brake booster ? I have a 3580162 installed that i sent in and had Dewey rebuild. Can anyone tell me if this is the correct unit for a 73 ebody built in Oct 72?

Thanks Dennis

I called and left a message with Dewey. One of the other reasons I am asking this question is that when I was putting the brake linkage on the brake pedal assembly it did not operate smooth. Chattering and Binding near the top. I also am curious as to are both pedals supposed to be the same height and even?

The 73 parts manual says it should be a 3580225.

I just went out and looked at my origonal booster. The tag is hard to read but it looks like it says 3580152.

So I'd say the one you have is correct since both our cars were built in the Sept/Oct time frame.

That doesn't look like the booster I have. Can you post a picture of the entire unit?

My booster is banded. It has a tag on it where the band is bolted together. That's where I got the numbers.

I've see some 73/74 cars with black boosters. The ones I've seen have been crimped together like yours. I don't know why some got the banded booster and others got a black crimped booster. Disc brakes were standard by 73 I think...so that's not it.

I've got a picture of another 73 Cuda build at the same time yours was. It has a zinc dichromate plated booster on it.(banded style)

Here's my original booster. The plastic vacuum fitting isn't correct. That's the one Dewey installed. I have the correct one and will be reinstalling it.

I'll have to check the numbers off my booster also. I'm pretty sure it is original to the car. My booster was black. I've never seen a 73 that was gold zinc. I've owned two 73 Chargers and the boosters in both of them were black too.

Mine was a scheduled Nov 72 build and the booster looks like Darren's except not nearly as shiny (insert jealous green guy here)

Here is a shot of it installed but now it is off the car for major touchup. I have some pitting and it is easier to fix on the bench. I like the style of your unit better..

Dennis, is that a Dewey paint job? I've seen his ads for years but never had a booster rebuilt by him. Apparently he only cares about function and not quality or correctness for the application.

Yes this is. My suggestion after speaking with Dewey is to make sure the case exterior looks good prior sending it to him for rebuild. He currently is backlogged over a 100 units. Business is good.. I am hand sanding mine down for a fresh recoat.

I've had several 73 B's and E's. Most were gold. Some were black. All my 74's were black. I though maybe the black 73's were factory replacements but maybe not.

Now here is the next question. If the car came with a black booster, was the master cylinder painted black as well just like in 1970?
