Hi, Will a 16' open trailer be long enough to trailer a 68-70 b body? any pix?...thanks

Been done many times. Remember to put a little more weight on the tongue than the rear. Too much tail weight results in fishtailing. I also recommend using a lad equalizing hitch. Gets part of the weight transferred to the to vehicle.

yeah, I've trailered w/18' open and I have the weight system, I just wasn't sure about the 16'lenght, The problem maybe in that the seller is including the dovetail in lenght....thanks

Yes, it will work OK. I only had a 16 ft trailer until a few years ago.
I have towed mostly 68-70 B bodies and a couple of C bodies.(short distance on the C body) !

You should have brakes on the trailer, as a 4k lb B body will need them !.

Whats the vehicle doing the towing? I towed a 2004 Ford F250 4x4 Superduty long bed diesel truck on my 16' trailer, but the tow vehicle was a F350 Superduty longbed. towed very smooth.

A 16' foot open can hold a full size pickup truck no problem

Reg cab 8 foot bed, so yes on any B Body or even a C Body with a little over hang,

I had the same results as above, but I bet any overhang is probably illegal in most states?? Putting brakes on my 16' was the best move I ever made!

My trailer is a 16' with a dove tail on it & I've had several B-Bodies on it as well as a F-150 without any troubles.

I towed a 73 charger on my 16 foot open just fine. The rear bumper of the car hung off just past the end of the trailer.

Most places allow up to 36" to hang past, at which point you need to mark it with a flag or lights. I pulled a 67 Galaxie Convert on a 16' trailer with less overhang so I wouldn't think your car would be any different. What is the vehicle thats being used to tow with? A car of that size would be a tough ride with a 1/2 ton.

I plan on using my 16 footer tandem (16' dovetail included) to haul my 68 B-Body some this year, and in the years to come, and not foreseeing any problems with it......and not to hi-jack the thread, but what is THE preferred style of straps to tie down with that are the quickest, easiest, and yet still highly trusted????

I've used the big straps you can get at home depot.They run about $15 each and are rated for 10,000lbs. I use 2 on the front and 2 on the rear, plus the winch cable. This, along with the car in gear and the parking brake applied. If that don't hold it, your doing something wrong and your not on a paved road anymore. This has held with the afformentioned 8,500lb F250 4x4 as well as a Lincoln Towncar down to my 63 Valiant convert with no motor or trans.

I ask because I've noticed the wheel mounted straps. They appear as though to cover the wheels/tires with a longer strap that runs to an anchoring point on the trailer. I like how they look easy to use but I wonder if they are actually any good, and safe to use

When it comes to holding a car on a trailer, consider the force exerted on the straps or chain if an accident occurs when towing. I'm NOT an engineer, but would guess a B-body could easily break a 10,000 lb strap in a high speed crash.

I know a guy who was towing a camaro on a trailer. He rear-ended an 18 wheeler. His tie down straps broke and the Camaro smashed into the rear of his pick-up cab. It nearly killed him! After hearing his story, I bought some U.S. made, DOT rated tie downs.

Those u hauls with the front straps work well, I even put a 70 charger on trailer backwards(no eng or trans) and the straps secured the 275/60 m/t drag radials pretty well. I always add an extra strap or two on those deals anyway.

I use chain and aircraft tiedowns like the one in the picture.Never had them break,and you can get them on Ebag.I installed eye bolts in the rear frame and on the front bumper brackets,tiedown hook goes to the eyes,chain is attached to the trailer.

When I tow for a long distance, I use chain and binders. Just like you see them use on the tractors that are on low boy trailers running down the interstate. But for around town, I use a total of 4 straps, 2 in front and 2 in back. These are 10,000lbs each. If you rearend an 18 wheeler hard enough to knock the car off the trailer, my guess is you are going to have alot more things to worry about than the car comming in from behind. Ohh and I drive 18 wheelers for a living.
