What's your trick for removing the wiper arms from the wiper post? I have a couple of stubborn wiper arms on my '69 GTX and for the life of me can't figure them out. I'm affraid that I'm going to mess up the hood stripes but they won't come off of the posts like they have on other cars without prying or .......... so I just walked away before I did something stupid....any tricks or what the heck am I doing wrong this time? Thanks

I have a wiper arm removing tool. You should be able to get on at your local automotive parts store , Napa, Carquest..etc.
You can also buy them on eBay.

Which one? I did a search for a wiper arm removal tool and it seems there's more than one type and application.........even one just for Corvette's (but I think that's like ebag ads that say "for Hemi's and A12's" so the $$$$$ goes up 50%" )

I have some that look kinda like these . They work like pliers in reverse and have a rubber coating to keep the paint from getting damaged.

I think I bought them from NAPA, but it's been so long ago I'm not 100% sure.

when you put them back, dab the shafts with a touch of white grease. they'll pop right off next time...

it's been awhile but isn't there a tab that needs to be released?

Buying a tool you will use twice...maybe 4 times...kind of a waste. There is a dog leg latch on the underneath...I use a small screwdriver and push it out of the way otherwise it catches under the serrations of the splined section. I take a towel and put it over my wiper arm..nice and thick so I don't mar the metal. I grab a big pair of channel locks and grab on...swing back and forth 2 or 3 times and they are off...if its stubborn, squirt a little WD40 with the spray tip up under the splined area...reset the dog leg latch and do the other one..

Bare hands... Seriously, grab the wiper arm & while pushing down toward the car on that, grab the part attached to the post & lift...

BTW On the latch being described above, some have it, most don't... If it's there yeah, pry the latch out...

I'm not sure about your X, but on my Dart, I use a small pick/hook to pull the lock tab away from the splines, then use a screwdriver to lift under the round part of the arm (around the splines).

I was a wuss and finally just grabbed the biggest screwdriver (1/2" blade) I had and another screwdriver for a pivot/fulcrum. Pryed that little clip looking thing right out or there completely, laid a towel on the hood under the screwdriver handle I used for the fulcrum and pryed the wiper right at the wiper posts and off they came. They'll go back on with a little anti-seize (very little) and next ones I do I won't be such a wuss PRY THEM OFF WUSSES

Thanks for all of the help everyone

some wipers have a small hole near the shaft that you can put a small nail in when you lift the wiper up off the w/s. this take the tension off the arm and makes it easier to remove. also some wipers have a latch that slides out when you lift wiper up off of w/s. does the same thing as the nail.
