On my RoadRunner the tranny seems to take a long time to shift, it really winds up before it will. Can I adjust the kick down rod to make it shift faster? Any advice will help. Thanks Ronnie

With the throttle at wot the pressure linkage on the trans should be all the way back, without excessive pressure.

I wouldn't drive it until it's right. Trans damage will follow.

Since it's shifting late the linkage appears to already be too far back.

Is the carb stock or aftermarket?

So have I been misled to believe that is the correct adjustment. That's how I have mine and it shifts fine.

Please don't think I'm disputing what your saying, you are certainly more knowledgeable about this than I am.

Hmmmmmmm maybe I can learn sumpin here too.

If it's not correct please explain. I just read my FSM and that's what it says.

I all ways push the TV lever forward against the stop and the linkage against the throttle stud.

then move it back a little at a time to get the shift points where I want them.

the TV lever does not have to be ALL the way back against the stop at WOT.

If I understand it correctly.

maybe John will clear it up for us?

Adjusting the TP linkage so that it's full back at WOT usually results in late light throttle upshifts (the OP's problem). Some folks do it and like the late shifts, others don't.

The factory adjustment procedure is shown below but this is only with factory carb and linkage. If an aftermarket carb is used without the correct Mopar throttle lever adapter it'll never work correctly.

Ok, I adjusted the linkage out some and it seems to shift better to second but it really made no difference on third gear. So I guess now I will try adjusting in in shorter some and try that. Ronnie

Shortening the linkage will make it shift sooner at any given throttle setting.
