The housing is 52&5/8" and it feels like I'm hitting solid metal. Thank you for your time. the thrust spacer in an 8-3/4 is 1-1/2" wide so 1-1/2 minus 1-9/32 would give you 7/32"(or nearly the 1/4" that you are having trouble with.)
