2009 “LEGION OF HONOR” AWARD

With one hundred nineteen events now completed in the six-season history of the Street Car Shootout Series, a staggering 16,788 entries have taken part in the sport‘s only weekly heads-up qualified field program for full-bodied passenger cars on D.O.T.-approved tires. It has been customary to annually acknowledge the few racers who have managed to qualify for at least one SCSS event during every year of the program’s existence. At the conclusion of the 2007 season, only nine drivers had accomplished the feat. At the end of 2008, the list contained only three names. The 2009 SCSS season dropped to ONE the number of racers who have qualified at least once each year from 2004 through the present.

Known for his dedication to an unusual combination, (a ten-second smallblock Ford-powered ’66 Mustang running on eight-inch-wide rear tires), that competitor is also renowned for his sportsmanship and dedication to the SCSS program. On top of that, he’s just a genuinely good guy. He has had good years, (including a runner-up in the 2005 SCSS Championship), and truly horrible seasons but he finished fourth in the 2009 final point standings and was the highest finisher at the helm of a Ford product. He’s St. Louis firefighter Greg “Hook-n-Ladder” Boschert; he earned his first “Fastest Street Car” qualifier decal on April 20th, 2004, and has made the weekly Super Sixteen field forty more times since then. Boschert’s familiar white Mustang coupe has improved from a 13.03/108.19 best at that first race to a current SCSS best of 10.70 seconds at 130.48 miles per hour yet he still drives it to and from the track. The next time you see Greg Boschert in the pits, shake his hand, pat him on the back and treat him with respect. He’s an “old guy”…but not too old to kick your ass.

Greg “Hook-n-Ladder” Boschert, the Last Man Standing in the SCSS Legion of Honor.
