Wow.. Ill tell you what, i was welding on my steering column bracket a few weeks ago and I still had those spacers in the bracket, one started melting and smoking. The fumes that came off that little spacer allowed me not to breathe and i couldnt open my eyes. It was like tear gas. Anyone know what those thigns are made of???Heres a pic of them.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOPAR-STEERING-COLUMN-SPACER-NEW-CORRECT-CHARGER-GTX_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116QQhashZitem1c04af4b72QQitemZ120337681266QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Those have zinc in them. When you weld on zinc, it gives off some poisonous gas. It happened to me when I was still a teen, bought an oxy-acetalyne welder and started making and selling double barrel wood stoves. I used galvanized stove pipe between the barrels, brazinging them together. I got sick and couldn't breath right. It took a good 6 months before I could take a really deep breath without coughing.

So never weld zinc or galvanized metal. Grind the galvanizing off, then weld on clean bare steel.
