They are made out of polypropylene, the same stuff they make water resistant ropes out of. It accepts paint/dye even worse than polyethylene does.

Black is not only the easiest to get, they survived far better than any other color, including white. I had no choice as there does not seem to be any surviving B5 blue panels out there without horrible chalking. Yeah, the black may show through one day but even if it does, it is a far cry from the greasy, chalky, scratched blue ones that survived.
