This is the only correct way to install them. Any and all inverted and regular flare fittings need lube and are designed for sealing at the flare, so no sealant should be used.
Really tight fittings with the proper wrench like mentioned above is the way to go. Lube allows you to get them really tight.

Grease or oil only around fuel systems.(I use motor oil) Teflon sealant could easily contaminate a fuel system if used on flare fittings.
