To remove the pad and horn ring assembly from the wheel you need to remove the "coin emblem" to get to the attaching bolt that is underneath.
Is that a correct?
I need to remove my steering wheel in my 69 GTS and I not sure how to remove the pad from the wheel.

If you have the three spoke center bad like Dayclona shows, then yes. You opo out the center coin and there is a nut (IIRC, been a while). That removes the pad and exposes the switch. Re then unhook the horn wire from the switch and remove switch. Then you can get to the nut that holds the wheel onto the shaft.
If you have a wood grain or taxi cab wheel that has a round center pad, then it is a twist off.
