Well here is an update on project double trouble – We got the car out last fall after a series of set-backs for a couple of passes and quickly realized we had the wrong converter and gear – we had used a 9” ATI we had on the parts shelf – it had nowhere near the stall we need and with a 4:10 gear it only compounded the problem the car was a mid-11 second ride with that combo – so over the winter we put in our spare an 8” ATI and a new 4;56 gear – took the car out to Quaker over the weekend and it definitely liked that combo with a 10.77 @125 with 1.45 sixty foot wheels up! - pretty much where I thought it would run with the factory cross-ram and 34 degrees timing. Not bad for a 3800+ lb whale with a full factory interior on cal tracks and 9” slicks. A little tuning will probably net a tenth or so – maybe add an INDY bathtub cross-ram somewhere down the line and that would put it solid and cover the 10.50 index. But this engine will be short lived in the car - the 572 HEMI is being built at BEST Machine and will replace the 512 sometime later this year – as it becomes a replica of the Hefty HEMI. But for now Russ will race the car at Bowling Green this weekend as the strictly business 63 is not ready yet.
